Reducing Risk, Protecting People

Our History

Our Story

  • From Our Founding in 1990

Clarion Safety Systems was founded in 1990 in Alpena, MI by Geoffrey Peckham. Named Hazard Communication Systems, Inc. until 2007, our niche was the design and manufacture of safety labels for product manufacturers that would meet the then yet-to-be published ANSI Z535.4 Standard for Product Safety Signs and Labels. Geoffrey correctly recognized that this new standard would provide manufacturers with a viable framework for their products' safety labels. The new standard was both a breakthrough and a necessity.

Before ANSI Z535.4, there was no recognized state-of-the art for product safety labels and any decision a manufacturer made with regards to their warnings could be challenged if a lawsuit arose claiming “inadequate warnings.” In 1991, Clarion Safety began to change that picture post publication. In the 30 years since our founding, we’ve served the needs of tens of thousands of product manufacturers and facility owners in over 180 industries.

  • To Our Evolution Today

Today, Milford, Pennsylvania (located roughly where the states of New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania meet), is home to our headquarters, with a Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired corporate office and cutting-edge production facility.

We proudly meet the needs of over 15,000 clients, and our products and services are in use in over 50 countries around the world. In addition to our core safety label products, we now offer facility safety signage and custom industrial printing. We also provide comprehensive machine safety, compliance, and risk reduction for OEMs and EH&S customers – offered in part through our affiliated businesses, Machine Safety Specialists (a machine safety and compliance consulting practice), and Arrow Industrial Solutions (a machine safeguarding integrator).

We understand that, to maximize safety and minimize risk, you need a partner with the experience and flexibility to deliver best practice, compliant solutions based on your specific situation, budget and evolving business objectives. That partner is Clarion Safety – and we remain dedicated to continuing to evolve to meet your needs.
