Clarion and the National Drowning Prevention Alliance

A Meaningful NDPA Partnership
Clarion proudly partners with the National Drowning Prevention Alliance (NDPA) to promote water safety across all aquatic environments. Our organizations share the same goal: to keep people safe as they enjoy water activities. The NDPA is a volunteer-driven, non-profit alliance of organizations dedicated to preventing drowning for all age groups in all bodies of water through public education, advocacy and strategic partnerships.

Our ongoing partnership with the NDPA has revolved around the development and promotion of our world-class, standards-compliant pool safety sign system that uses graphical symbols to communicate the most important pool safety messages. As part of our collaboration, the NDPA oversaw the comprehension testing of our graphical symbol-based signs. The testing protocol for the program was designed by Applied Safety and Ergonomics, one of the leading human factors consulting firms in the country. The result of this collaborative effort is a new generation of safety signs that are conveying their critical messages at pools across the U.S.

The NDPA “Seal of Safer Pool Practices Program”
Clarion safety signs are an important part of the NDPA’s Seal of Safer Pool Practices Program, a program that has been established to promote water safety for class "C" aquatic facilities. This was developed with input from the Independent Pool and Spa Service Association. The NDPA program guidelines provide a set of best practices based on the Safer 3 Water Safety Foundation's model for reducing drowning incidents. The goal: creating a safer experience for people using class "C" aquatic facilities. This type of pool includes those found in hotels, motels, apartments, condominiums, property owner associations, and multi-family owned pools.

The primary goal of the NDPA Safer Pools program is to reduce the risk of water-related accidents. It’s expected that a secondary benefit for pool owners who follow the program’s best practices will be a reduction in their liability exposure should an accident occur. Following best safety practices as defined by the foremost alliance of organizations committed to promoting pool safety should help provide a defense in court should an accident occur and a lawsuit arise against the pool’s owner.

NDPA Program Signage
Choosing the right sign system for your pool is easy. Two Clarion pool safety sign systems have been created for the NDPA Seal of Safer Pool Practices Program:

  1. One with “Life Guard on Duty” signs for guarded pools
  2. One with “No Life Guard on Duty” signs for unguarded pools

We also offer customized options (such as materials for indoor or for outdoor use) to meet your needs.
