Reducing Risk, Protecting People
Company Profile

Safety Resume

Our involvement on the U.S. and international standards committees in visual safety communication is at the leadership level. We’re committed to putting our knowledge into practice by being our clients' partner and resource for warnings. Through that collaboration, our goal of working together to make the world a safer place is taking shape.

Through the years, we’ve been privileged to share our expertise on many industry initiatives – in addition to our core work on the ANSI Z535 and ISO 3864-2 standards that apply to safety labels and signs – to better standardize safety communications and protect people around the world.

Highlights From Our Major Projects

  1. ISO 45001

We joined as a member of the U.S. TAG to ISO/PC 283, being part of the development process for ISO 45001, the world’s first occupational health and safety management systems standard, published in 2018.

  2. OSHA 2013

Clarion Safety spearheaded OSHA's 2013 update to its outdated workplace safety sign rules which, after 6 years of Clarion Safety lobbying, resulted in nationwide regulations with references to the best practice ANSI Z535 standards.

  3. NYC Building Code

We provided leadership to the NYC building code committee for skyscraper evacuation markings after 9/11.

  4. NFPA 101

We submitted the change proposals that updated the safety symbols NFPA uses in its standards related to fire safety equipment location signs and evacuation marking signs.

  5. SEMI S1

Our team submitted the change proposals that resulted in NFPA adopting photoluminescent stairwell markings in the NFPA 101 Life Safety Code – a standard referenced by nearly every state and municipal building code to ensure safety is designed into every building.

  6. ISO 3864-2

The SEMI S1 standard, published in 2002, foreshadowed the publication of the ISO 3864-2 standard for product safety labels, incorporating the best in both ANSI Z535 and ISO 3864 design principles.
