Chemical Hazard Labels

Clarion Safety’s chemical safety labels inform people of potential hazards associated with chemicals and provide instruction regarding the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) so harmful exposure can be avoided. Harmful exposure from chemical hazards includes irritation, sensitization, carcinogenicity, flammability, corrosion, and explosibility. These chemical safety labels are designed in line with the latest ANSI/ISO standards and are available in wordless, symbol only, symbol and text, and multi-symbol and text format options. Employers should always take engineering, administrative, and PPE controls to avoid unnecessary exposure to chemical substances. These include, but are not limited to substituting for safer alternatives, usage of fume hoods, repeating visual warnings, rotating work schedules, and providing chemical protective clothing.

Globally Harmonized System (GHS) symbols are used for global hazard identification of health physical, and environmental hazards, and ISO symbols are used to indicate the need for specific forms of PPE. OSHA even requires that all employers with hazardous chemicals in their workplaces must have labels and safety data sheets for their exposed workers, as well as training them to handle each one appropriately.
