Led by Ken Hackworth, PE, FS Eng (TÜV Rheinland) — Vice President of Safety Assessment at Clarion Safety Systems and MSS — this training provides a deep dive into machinery safety principles grounded in more than 25 years of real-world engineering experience. Ken is a certified Functional Safety Engineer, licensed Professional Engineer, and contributor to key safety standards including ANSI B11.


Your team will gain knowledge in:

  • OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, RIA, and ISO/EN machine safety standards
  • Machine risk assessments and how to apply them
  • Functional safety and control reliability (including B11.26–2024 updates)
  • Safe distance calculations and safeguarding design best practices
  • Lockout/tagout (LOTO) alternatives and safety interlock strategies
  • Legal and liability considerations for machine design and operation

October 23 Technical Breakout Sessions (Optional Add-On)


Following the main course, MSS is offering optional, topic-focused breakout sessions on October 23, 2025. These small group sessions allow participants to take a deeper dive into high-interest technical topics with time for Q&A and live discussion with our safety engineers.

Breakout topics will include:

  • Safe Entry Requirements for Manufacturing Cells
  • Roller and Conveyor Guarding (OSHA, ANSI, ASME)
  • Advanced Functional Safety and Control Reliability (ANSI B11.26 – 2024)
  • Safety Requirements for Bypassing (Suspending) Guards (U.S. & ISO)

Each breakout runs from 12:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. ET, and allows time for Q&A. Attended a previous MSS course? You’re eligible to register for the breakout sessions independently.
