Inside a Multi-Site Machine Safeguarding Project: Design, Build, and Integration
Partnering to Mitigate Machine Risk Across Industrial Facilities
In complex industrial environments, machine safety is a critical part of risk reduction. That’s why ASC Engineered Solutions — a North American manufacturer of piping and pipe joining systems — partnered with our team at Arrow Industrial Solutions to tackle a multi-site safeguarding challenge.
With dozens of machines in use across ten locations, ASC needed a phased, compliant approach to machine risk mitigation. This new case study highlights how our team at Arrow developed and executed a custom, turnkey solution that’s helping protect workers, satisfy inspection requirements, and support ASC’s safety culture from the ground up.
Solving Machine Safety Challenges Across Multiple Sites
Facilities like ASC often operate with a wide mix of machinery — some aging, some recently upgraded — and a range of safety protocols at different levels of implementation. That inconsistency can make it difficult to standardize risk reduction strategies.
With senior leadership at ASC actively promoting a strong safety culture, the company reached out to Arrow Industrial Solutions to assess and safeguard high-priority equipment. Our work began at ASC’s Greencastle, PA location and laid the foundation for a long-term machine safeguarding plan across the organization.
Tailored Safeguarding for ASC's Operations
Our initial scope focused on safeguarding over 50 machines — including ASC’s “B43 Automatic Threader”, profiled in the case study. Through a collaborative process, we developed a three-year roadmap based on operational priorities and budget, designing both mechanical and electrical guards to address each machine’s unique risks.
In the case of the B43, the scale and interaction level required detailed CAD modeling and electrical schematics. The solution integrated seamlessly with ASC’s legacy systems, ensuring protection without compromising functionality. Once approved, the guards were manufactured in-house by Arrow and installed onsite by our team — with training and fine-tuning completed to ensure long-term success.
